STORY

The story behind our Gym

Reyes Combat Academy was founded by Michael Reyes, a lifelong martial artist from Oxnard with more than 20 years of combat sports experience.

His relentless fighting style and dedication to the sport opened doors to compete for respected organizations including King of the Cage, Combate Americas, Combate Global, LFA, and Shootboxing in Japan.

Today, Reyes Combat Academy is built around more than just fighting. The mission is to help students become capable, confident, resilient, and disciplined individuals both on and off the mats.

VALUES

Our Guiding Principles

Passion

We are passionate about helping every student discover their strength, confidence, and potential. Every class is designed to inspire, challenge, and encourage personal achievement in a positive and supportive environment.

Community

Our studio is more than a place to train—it's a community where students and families build lasting friendships. We believe everyone belongs and succeeds by supporting one another with respect, encouragement, and teamwork.

Commitment

Success comes through consistency and dedication. We encourage every student to stay committed to their goals, develop discipline, and embrace the journey of continuous learning both on and off the mat.

Growth

Martial arts is about more than physical skills—it's about personal growth. As students progress, they build confidence, resilience, leadership, and character that positively impacts every area of their lives.

Michael began training in boxing and wrestling at a young age and quickly developed a passion for competition and leadership. While still in high school, he became captain of his wrestling team and helped run classes at his local Freestyle and Greco wrestling club. Shortly after graduating, he began training in Mixed Martial Arts and stepped into his first MMA fight with less than a week of formal MMA experience — earning a victory through grit, wrestling, and boxing fundamentals.

These lessons help students succeed at home, in school, and in everyday life.

The three main focal points of RCA’s Kids MMA Program are:

Respect – For parents, educators, elders, peers, and themselves.

Discipline -In the gym, at school, at home, and with responsibilities and commitments.

Confidence -In their actions, decisions, words, and abilities.

No experience is required. Our classes are beginner-friendly and designed to help students progress at their own pace. RCA works diligently to address the needs, goals, and concerns of each individual student.

Confidence -In their actions, decisions, words, and abilities.

After their first class, parents can expect their child to leave with:

  • Better coordination and footwork
  • Improved balance and body awareness
  • Increased confidence
  • Excitement to continue learning
  • Introduction to effective martial arts techniques

Parents can also expect their child to be ready for a great night’s sleep after training.

RCA’s program combines multiple martial arts disciplines into one structured system while also teaching students how to handle real-world situations with confidence and control.

Students are introduced to techniques and concepts from:

  • Boxing
  • Wrestling
  • Jiu Jitsu
  • Kickboxing
  • Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)

Our approach focuses not only on athletic development, but also on helping students navigate common situations involving confrontation, pressure, and adversity in a responsible manner.
